In 2015, a friend came up with the idea of joining the Death March. For Kasper, walking did not feel like a challenge and he decided to walk the 100 km.
That first Death Walk I wanted to finish walking. I made it. Stumbling and with cramps. Real suffering. But I succeeded. And I am incredibly proud of that
Since then the microbe hasn't gone away. More and better training became the consequence and tougher treks in the Ardennes were on the cards. He slept in his van, went hiking in the woods and returned home on Sunday evening.
In 2016, the Death March went a lot better and it was time for the 100-mile Ultra Warmathon. That was a different ball of wax as there was no provisioning like the Death March. Just the fact that Kasper had to master new conditions again gave him the thrill.
Running alongside Karel Sabbe for the first time was an experience in my first 100-mile run.
Friends at the time thought it could be even crazier and then you soon end up at the Marathon des Sable. Kasper really lived for it and he really liked the hellish run in the loose sand.
Since then, Kasper has been looking for adventure every year and a challenge even tougher than the last. But it's mainly about dealing with ever new conditions. And that includes new materials each time. Then the road to Marc at Basecamp is logic itself.
